The Program

Argentina's Universidad Nacional de Córdoba (http://www.unc.edu.ar/) is one of the first established in the American continent and the nation's oldest.  Founded in the early 1600s, its core administrative buildings are located in what is known as the Manzana de las Luces (Block of Lights), a UNESCO World Heritage site.

UNC is recognized for its academic excellence, consistently ranking among Argentina's top five institutions of higher education.  It is also renowned for being the alma mater of several of the nation's former presidents, including Carlos Saúl Menem.

SUNY Geneseo's exchange program with UNC enables undergraduate and graduate students to study any of the courses offered at UNC in Argentina for a semester or an academic year while paying SUNY tuition for the credits accrued abroad.  Spring semester runs mid-March through July; fall semester runs late July through December.  Participants may enroll in any of the courses offered by UNC or by the Facultad de Lenguas (School of Languages); its programs include Spanish language and linguistics, Hispanic literatures, teaching Spanish as a second language, literary theory and translation studies.

The City

The historical city of Córdoba is Argentina's second most important city and the urban and cultural heart of the nation's central region.  Nestled in a vast valley surrounded by sierras, its microclimate is characterized by mild temperatures most of the year.  The city itself is a blend of Spanish Colonial and modern architecture, and is laced by pedestrian promenades, rivers, and streams, as well as green areas such as Sarmiento Park.  Public transportation is accessible and economical.

Housing

Housing is with host families in the vicinity of Universidad Nacional de Córdoba.  This provides students further opportunities to develop their Spanish language skills and to become fully immersed in the culture of Argentina.
