GENESEO, N.Y. - The Geneseo Tremont Quartet with guest pianist Jonathan Gonder, chair of the Department of Music, will present its Fall Concert on Nov. 11 at 3 p.m. in Wadsworth Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public and will feature "Serenade in C major, Opus 10" by Dohnányi and "Piano Quartet No. 1 in C minor, Opus 15" by Fauré.
The scintillating piece by Dohnányi is a five-movement trio and one of the outstanding works of the string trio repertory.
"Dohnányi's music always showed touches of his affinity for Mozart and Schubert, but the shifting chromatic tonality of the serenade is firmly of the 20th century," said Tremont Quartet founder and Geneseo faculty member James Kirkwood. "Fauré also had a very distinct musical personality that evolved a most distinctive school of French art at the end of the 19th century."
