GENESEO, N.Y. -- The Geneseo Wind Ensemble and Thursday Night Jazz Ensemble will perform a joint concert March 2 at 8 p.m. in the college's Wadsworth Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public.

The Wind Ensemble, conducted by James Walker, distinguished service professor of music, will feature a major work for winds: "Symphony No. 1 ‘Lord of the Rings'" by the Netherlands composer Johan deMeij, winner of the Sudler International Composition Contest.

"This is not the music from the movie; it's a full-blown symphonic work based on the much more fanciful images of the original Tolkien trilogy - a fanciful world in musical imagery by a wonderful composer," said Walker. "The work was selected over compositions submitted from 47 countries! It's a real treat for the audience."

The Thursday Night Jazz Ensemble is under the direction of Jonathan Kruger.
