GENESEO, N.Y. -- The Geneseo Wind Ensemble and Monday Night Jazz Ensemble will close their fall season with joint concert Dec. 7 at 8 p.m. in the college's Wadsworth Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public.
The Wind Ensemble, conducted by James Walker, distinguished service professor of music, will feature "Celebrations" by John Zdechlik; "Music for a Festival" by Gordon Jacob; "Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral" by Richard Wagner, and in keeping with the season, "Sleigh Ride" by Leroy Anderson.
The Jazz Ensemble will be performing music from the rich tradition of jazz literature established by musicians like Count Basie, Thad Jones, Dexter Gordon and Slide Hampton, in addition to original music composed and arranged by ensemble director Jon Kruger. "Big Dave" is a new composition by Kruger, that is a smooth swinger.
Also on the program is "Another Shuffle" by Tom Matta in the tradition of Thad Jones. The program will also include several jazz standards, such as "Secret Love," "Stardust" and "What's New."
