A Souper Effort

Before the Seattle Seahawks took home the 2014 Super Bowl championship, the Geneseo Knights had already scored a community-service win.

As part of Geneseo's 2nd annual Souper Bowl, SUNY Geneseo student-athletes partnered with Wegmans to collect more than 500 cans of soup/food to be donated to the food pantries in Geneseo, Avon, Mt. Morris and Livonia. Fans who came to cheer on the ice hockey team on Friday and Saturday nights were encouraged to bring cans of soup.

The student-athletes are delivering the donated items to the food pantries today.

"Once again, students, faculty, staff and our community teamed up to help fight hunger in Livingston County and did a great job," says organizer Sharon West, head athletic trainer and special events coordinator for the Office of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation. "We would like to thank all of those who contributed to make this event a success."
