Livingston CARES has made arrangements for 50 volunteers to work on Hurricane Sandy Recovery efforts on Staten Island and the Brooklyn Red Hook area on Monday, January 7 through Friday, January 11, 2013. Students, faculty/staff, and community volunteers are welcome to register and participate in the work week.
Registration for the January New York City CARES work trip will begin on Thursday, December 6 on a first-come, first-serve basis until all 50 spaces are filled. Registration packets that include four documents may be picked and returned to the Center for Community in MacVittie 353. You may also contact 585-245-5893 for more information.
The registration fee of $150 for the week includes accommodations on Sunday, January 7 through Friday night, January 11 (bring sleeping bags to sleep in a carpeted lounge); overnight security; thirteen kosher meals including five hot breakfasts, five bag lunches, and three dinners; insurance; a volunteer T-shirt; and gas reimbursement for weekday drivers. Housing and meals will be provided at the Manor Road Staten Island Jewish Community Center. Please bring a check payable to Livingston CARES or cash with the completed registration forms.
As the trip occurs during the College's winter break and volunteers will be coming from all over the state, transportation will not be provided before or after the work week. Livingston CARES anticipates that volunteers will carpool during the week to and from the work sites. Information on the actual work sites and agency supervision of volunteers will be provided in the near future.
