Geneseo Symphony Orchestra, Choruses to Feature Verdi and Mozart Nov. 24

Geneseo, N.Y. -- The SUNY Geneseo Symphony Orchestra, Festival Chorus, Chamber Singers, and Spectrum Women's Ensemble will perform under the direction of Jim Tiller and Gerard Floriano Nov. 24 at 3 p.m. in Wadsworth Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

Tiller, a music department lecturer and principal percussionist for the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, will conduct the first part of the program: Verdi's "Overture to Nabucco." The Spectrum Women's Ensemble will join the join the orchestra for a performance of Kirke Mechem's "Seven Joys of Christmas," an arrangement of seasonal carols.

The second part of the program will be under the direction of Floriano, professor music at Geneseo and a 1984 Geneseo graduate, and will feature the Geneseo Festival Chorus and Chamber Singers performing Mozart's "Requiem." This unfinished piece by Mozart was completed in 1792 and featured in the 1984 Milos Forman film "Amadeus." The piece will feature student soloists, Jane Coons, Dalya Kefi, Rahul Thandla, Greg Palermo, Alex Imbrosci and Kirsten Freiman, and community members Elizabeth Kimball, Michael Capel and Eric Trumpowsky.
