GENESEO, N.Y. - The State University of New York at Geneseo is among 49 "Best Buy Schools" named in the 2012 edition of "The Fiske Guide to Colleges." Inclusion on the list in the highly respected publication is based on the quality of academic offerings in relation to the cost of attendance. Geneseo has been on the list for several years.
This year, the publication names 49 institutions - 24 public and 25 private - as "Best Buys," categorized as inexpensive or moderately priced with a four- or five-star academic rating.
Authored by former New York Times education editor Edward Fiske, the guide highlights Geneseo as a preferred option for students who want the feel of a private college at a public-university price. It notes that the college "attracts high achievers from around the nation."
The guide accepts no consulting, advertising or other fees from colleges and has no outside relationship with colleges working on its behalf. The goal of the publication is to help future students select the best colleges to reach their own goals in a price range that is manageable for their personal circumstances.
