GENESEO, N.Y. - The State University of New York at Geneseo is among 45 "Best Buy Schools" named in the 2011 edition of "The Fiske Guide to Colleges." Inclusion on the list in the highly respected publication is based on the quality of academic offerings in relation to the cost of attendance. Geneseo has made the list the past several years and is the only SUNY institution in the group this year.
The publication names 45 institutions in the country - 21 public and 24 private - as "Best Buys," deemed inexpensive or moderately priced with a four- or five-star academic rating. The guide is available at bookstores and online.
"Geneseo offers a seriously academic environment at a state-school price," the guide notes. "Responsive, attentive professors help compensate for the long winters and somewhat isolated location. And excellent pre-professional programs in disciplines such as education and business have been making it harder to win admission to this most bucolic campus of the New York State university system."
Authored by former New York Times education editor Edward Fiske, the guide highlights Geneseo as a preferred option for students who want the feel of a private college at a public-university price.
The guide accepts no consulting, advertising or other fees from colleges and has no outside relationship with colleges working on its behalf. The goal of the publication is to help future students select the best colleges to reach their own goals in a price range that is manageable for their personal circumstances.
