SUNY Geneseo Hires George F.
Stooks as
Assistant Vice President for Facilities and Planning
GENESEO, N.Y.—George
F. Stooks has joined the State University of New York at Geneseo as assistant
vice president for facilities and planning.
Stooks emerged
as the leading candidate in a national search. "George brings decades of
experience and expertise in facilities management gained through his career
with the United States Navy and the SUNY System," said Kenneth H. Levison, vice
president for administration and finance. "He offers proven leadership that
will allow Geneseo to continue to meet the needs of our students, faculty and
staff."
As one of four
members on the vice president's senior staff, Stooks is charged with leading
the department's strategic focus and creative direction. He will directly
oversee the departments of facilities services, facilities planning and
construction, and environmental health and safety. Stooks' responsibilities
cover a wide range of duties, from facilities operations and building
maintenance to employee development.
"I hope to make a
contribution to facilities and planning and the College as a whole worthy of
the campus' reputation that drew me to apply," Stooks said. "I look forward to
becoming part of the Geneseo campus community and beginning this new chapter in
my life and career."
Stooks comes to Geneseo
well-seasoned in the SUNY system. Previously, he served as director of
facilities management and operations at SUNY Oswego, where he started his
career in higher education as trades manager in 1987. Over the next 20 years,
he was promoted to various positions of increasing responsibility at Oswego,
including assistant director of physical plant and interim director of physical
plant.
He currently serves as
president of the SUNY Physical Plant Administrators Association.
Earlier in his career,
Stooks worked as a leading petty officer in the United States Navy and with
major power generating stations at the Betchel Power Corporation in California.
Stooks earned an associate
of applied science degree in machine tool technology from Mira Costa Community
College in California, as well as bachelor's and master's degrees in business
administration from SUNY Oswego.
In addition,
Stooks is actively engaged in a variety of civic activities. He has served as a
member of the planning board in the town of Scriba, NY, and of the Oswego County
Habitat for Humanity board of directors.
