Resident Jim Stenger Retires as Chief of SUNY Geneseo Police Department
GENESEO,
N.Y. – Cheektowaga resident Jim Stenger transferred command as chief of police
at the State University of New York at Geneseo on his final day at the college
Aug. 20. Stenger retired after 35 years
of law enforcement service with SUNY, the last 14 as police chief at Geneseo. He passed command to Interim Chief Scott
Kenney, who praised Stenger and presented him with a retirement badge to honor
his service.
“We are
grateful for the tremendous combination of honesty, integrity and loyalty Jim
brought to our campus police department and wish him the very best in
retirement,” said Robert Bonfiglio, vice president for student and campus life
at Geneseo. “The demands on those in
campus law enforcement increased tremendously after the World Trade Center
attacks and Virginia Tech tragedy, but Jim’s keen ability to see the big picture
served him well in carefully guiding his department to address those
demands. He is passing along a strong
foundation of excellence to those in the department.”
Stenger
was a member of the SUNY Police Chiefs Association executive board for four
years and was named president of the organization in 1999.
