SUNY Geneseo Students to Hold a Shack-a-thon
A shack-a-thon fund-raiser for Habitat for Humanity is one of the highlights of this years Greek Week, April 24-27, at the State University of New York at Geneseo. The Inter-Greek Council (IGC), the governing board for 19 recognized fraternities and sororities, organizes the events. The media is welcome to cover all of these events.
April 24-25: Shack-a-thon, co-sponsored by Geneseo chapter of Habitat for Humanity. Teams of Greek organizations will be constructing cardboard shacks to raise awareness about homelessness and raise money for Habitat for Humanity. On Sunday, April 24, from 2-6 p.m., teams will begin constructing their "shacks" on the Sturges Quad. Shacks will be constructed out of cardboard, tape, paint, etc., and decorated to the teams liking. On Monday, April 25, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., IGC will hold a jar war competition. Students, faculty and staff will be asked to "vote" for their favorite shack by donating money in the teams jars. The team who raises the most money wins, and all donations collected will be donated to Habitat for Humanity. Several "celebrity" judges from campus will judge the shacks based on stability, creativity and aesthetic appeal.
April 26: 5 p.m. at the Rugby Field (behind Onondaga): Greek Olympics Teams will compete in a variety of athletic field games, including: tug-o-war, chariot racing, three-legged race, egg toss and dizzy bat.
April 27: 5 p.m. Dorm Races: Relay teams will complete a series of tasks at various residence halls on north and south sides of campus. Each participating residence hall will be developing the tasks for the teams to complete.
April 28: 8 p.m. at South Hall: IGC and KINO present the movie "Napoleon Dynamite."
Teams will be given points for participation, spirit, teamwork and sportsmanship. The team with the most points wins the Greek Week Championship trophy.
