The Princeton Review once again names SUNY Geneseo a
"Best Northeastern College"
GENESEO, N.Y.—The State University of New York at
Geneseo has once again been named one of the most exceptional colleges in the
United States by The Princeton Review.
SUNY Geneseo was named a Best Northeastern College in the
education services company's 2007 edition of its annual book, "The Best 361
Colleges," which hits bookstores today—Tuesday, August 22. A mere 15
percent of the four-year colleges in America are in the book, which contains a
two-page profile about Geneseo with information on academics, admission,
financial aid, the student body and campus life.
The 2007 book notes that Geneseo is the most selective of
SUNY's undergraduate colleges. The article includes quotes from students noting
that Geneseo has numerous student clubs, plentiful free events, intramural
sports and amazing sunsets in a bucolic setting.
"Geneseo is perfectly situated to take advantage of an
emerging national trend that has many top students who once limited their
college choices to highly-selective private colleges, choosing, instead, to
enroll at first-rate public institutions. I think you will see that trend
continue to grow," said Bill Caren, associate vice president for enrollment
services at Geneseo.
This announcement follows on the heels of last week's news
that the college was highly ranked in U.S. News & World Report's 2007 edition of "America's Best Colleges." In that
publication, Geneseo was ranked No. 2 among the "Top Public Universities—Master's"
for the northern region.
In addition, last month The New York Times named Geneseo one of the country's "hidden gems" that
"is increasingly seen as a first choice for high achievers." Geneseo was one of
colleges and universities nationwide that "are alternatives to the usual
suspects," or the "brand-name institutions."
The Princeton Review results were based on surveys with
115,000 students attending the colleges profiled in the book. The Princeton
Review posts the book's annual ranking lists on its Web site, www.PrincetonReview.com.
The Princeton Review's book, in its 15th edition,
is one of about 200 Princeton Review books published annually by Random House.
"The Best 361 Colleges" also includes the company's annual ranking lists of top
20 colleges in more than 60 categories, ranging from best campus food to best
academics to best administered. The Princeton Review does not rank the colleges
from 1 to 361.
