Enrico Johnson Appointed Assistant Provost at SUNY
Geneseo
GENESEO, N.Y. — Enrico "Rico" Johnson has been
appointed assistant provost for budget and facilities at the State University
of New York at Geneseo.
Johnson comes to Geneseo from the
College of Arts and Sciences at SUNY Stony Brook, where he served as assistant
dean and director of budget. Prior to his six years in the dean's office, he
spent 10 years as the senior budget analyst for Stony Brook's university budget
office. He began at Geneseo Oct. 11.
He brings to his new post a wide
variety of skills and a great deal of experience, said Geneseo Provost Kate
Conway-Turner.
"It's a very important and central
position for the division of academic affairs and the college," said
Conway-Turner. "His expertise is just perfect for us. We really couldn't find a
better fit. He really is a wonderful addition to our staff."
In his post here, Johnson will
oversee the office of campus scheduling and special events, and budget and
facilities in relation to academics, working closely with department chairs. As
Geneseo completes construction on its new Center for Excellence in Science and
renovates its current science buildings, Johnson will serve as the liaison
between the faculty and staff who will use the buildings and the contractors.
He will oversee purchasing of academic equipment to meet the needs of the
college.
"It's exciting, and I love
challenges," said Johnson. "I'm in my glory right now being here and taking on
these new challenges.
"The people here are wonderful.
The thing that drew me here was the college and its reputation," he said.
Johnson received his MBA from
Dowling College in Long Island in 1994 and his bachelor's in business
administration in accounting from Howard University in 1983.
A San Francisco native, Johnson's
family moved to Louisiana when he was 2 and to Long Island when he was 13. He
and his wife, Tanya, have an 8-year-old daughter, Keyome.
