SUNY GENESEO

CALENDAR OF EVENTS FOR APRIL 14-20

THURSDAY, APRIL 14:

FILM: The Alan Lutkus International Film Series presents the film "The Revolution will not be Televised." A gripping, politically important film documenting the Venezuelan military coup of April 2002. Implicitly backed by the U.S. and Venezuela’s ruling class, coup organizers used blatant misinformation and privately owned television networks to wage a campaign to overthrow the populist, democratically elected regime of President Hugo Chavez. During a tense 48-hour period documented by this film, Venezuela’s power changed hands twice. In English and Spanish, with English subtitles. Discussant: David Tamarin of the history department. 7 p.m., Bailey Hall Auditorium (135). Free and open to the public.

LEDERER GALLERY EXHIBIT: The Bertha V.B. Lederer Gallery in Brodie Hall presents the Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition. The gallery is open daily from 2-4:30 p.m. and Thursdays 12-8 p.m. Free and open to the public. The exhibit runs through Friday, April 29.

LOCKHART GALLERY EXHIBIT: The Lockhart Gallery, located in the McClellan House, presents a multimedia installation by Cyril Reade titled "O’ Jerusalem." Reade, an internationally exhibited sculptor, is an assistant professor of art at Rochester Institute of Technology. Originally exhibited in the Art Gallery of the CUNY College of Staten Island, "O’ Jerusalem" combines drawings, brass reliefs, sculpture in the round and photography, to explore the complex interrelations between Arab and Israeli culture as embodied in both the current and the historical situation of Jerusalem. The gallery is open daily from 2-5 p.m. and Thursdays 12-8 p.m. Free and open to the public. The exhibit runs through Friday, May 6.
