CALENDAR OF EVENTS FOR MARCH 10-16

THURSDAY, MARCH 10:

FILM: The Alan Lutkus International Film Series presents the film "The Agronomist." The true story of Haitian radio journalist, human rights activist and agronomist, Jean Dominique, whose vision of a democratic Haiti and his passion for freedom of speech cost him his life. "The Agronomist" is a celebration of a genuine people’s hero. Directed by the acclaimed Jonathan Demme, the film includes historical footage of Haiti’s tumultuous past and interviews with Dominique and Michele Montas, his wife. Discussants: Rose-Marie Chierici of the anthropology department and Maria Lima of the English department. 7 p.m., Bailey Hall Auditorium (135). Free and open to the public.

LEDERER GALLERY EXHIBIT: The Bertha V.B. Lederer Gallery in Brodie Hall presents the Livingston County High School Exhibit. The gallery is open daily from 2-4:30 p.m. and Thursdays 12-8 p.m. Free and open to the public. The exhibit runs through Friday, March 11 with a closing reception from 4-6 p.m.

LOCKHART GALLERY EXHIBIT: The Lockhart Gallery, located in the McClellan House, presents "Celebration of the Oaks." This exhibit will showcase collections of works of art from the Genesee Valley dealing with images of the oak tree. Works in the exhibit will include representations of the venerable oak by such legendary artists as luminist painter John F. Kensett; photographer Ansel Adams; Virginia Daley, a painter based in Washington, D.C.; and regional luminaries Richard Beale, Kent Diver, Donna Kelsey, Guy LeClair, Sally B. Moses, Will Wadsworth and Dante Thomas Zachinini. The "Celebration of the Oaks" exhibit is being held in conjunction with the Genesee Valley Conservancy, a non-profit conservation organization devoted to the preservation of open space within the Genesee River watershed and adjacent agricultural areas. The gallery is open daily from 2-5 p.m. and Thursdays 12-8 p.m. Free and open to the public. The exhibit runs through Monday, March 28.

OPUS GALLERY EXHIBIT: The Opus Gallery in the MacVittie College Union presents Shannon Williams’ and Jennifer Johnson’s Senior Shows. The gallery is open daily from 1-5 p.m. Free and open to the public. The exhibit runs through Sunday, March 13.

PERFORMANCE: The School of Performing Arts presents Musical Theatre Club Revue. 8 p.m. Alice Austin Theatre, Brodie Hall. Free and open to the public.
