Student and
Campus Life Vice President to Receive National Award of Excellence
GENESEO,
N.Y. – Robert Bonfiglio, vice president for student and campus life at the
State University of New York at Geneseo, is this year’s recipient of the most
prestigious award conferred by the Council for the Advancement of Standards in
Higher Education. The Ted K. Miller
Achievement of Excellence Award recognizes outstanding accomplishments in
advancing standards of practice and quality assurance in educational programs
and services in higher education.
“We are
thrilled to honor Bob for many reasons,” said Susan Komives, CAS president and professor
in the College Student Personnel Program at the University of Maryland. “He has used CAS standards in a systematic
review of the Division of Campus and Student Life at Geneseo and his careful
and visionary leadership has resulted in a collaborative learning and work
environment for students and professional staff. His work has been published in a chapter of
‘Learning Reconsidered 2: Implementing a
Campus-Wide Focus on the Student Experience’ and he has presented widely on the
use of CAS standards in professional work,” she said.
CAS is
the nation’s pre-eminent organization for promoting standards in student
affairs, student services and student development programs since its inception
in 1979. Individuals and institutions from nearly 40 CAS member organizations
comprise a professional constituency of more than 100,000 professionals.
“I was
pleased to learn I had been nominated for this award, which actually recognizes
the good work of all of the staff in student and campus life at Geneseo,” said
Bonfiglio. “When I came to the college
in 1999, our staff agreed to use the benchmarks established by CAS to shape a
state-of-the-art student affairs program, and this award affirms not only that
Geneseo’s program represents best practice in American higher education but
also that we consistently contribute to the fulfillment of the college’s
mission,” he said.
Bonfiglio
will receive the award at the CAS national symposium in November.
