The offices of Off Campus Services and Student Conduct & Community Standards offer student internships to encourage community development, better relationships between students and the Geneseo village and positive student behavior(s) off campus. Student interns and staff jointly develop programs to educate students on how be a good neighbor and a positive, responsible member of the Geneseo community.
Community Assistants (CA’s) will work closely with the Tamara Kenney (Student Conduct & Community Standards) and Wendi Kinney (Off Campus Services) for the academic year. These CA’s provide education through outreach programs geared specifically for students living off campus in the Village of Geneseo. In addition, they provide information directly to students and serve as liaisons to the local police agencies, landlords, village residents and students residing locally off campus. They also explore strategies to reduce the number of students ticketed for the use of fraudulent identification, open containers of alcohol and unlawful possession of alcohol within the village of Geneseo.
Our goals are to educate ourselves on statutes related to college student life and make this information readily available to students to help prevent behavior that may put their future at risk. An issue we wanted to address this semester is the use of fake IDs. We conducted a brief, anonymous survey that yielded 807 student responses on fake ID use in the Geneseo community. This data helped us gauge why students use fake IDs and ways to address this problem to prevent students from facing related consequences. We hope to host "Under 21 Nights" at local bars and put on risk management workshops to reduce fake ID use and continue to educate students.
