Computing & Information Technology (CIT) invites applications for the following student, part-time position. Student employees must have full-time student status at Geneseo. Summer employees must be full-time students in the semesters preceding and following the break.

Student who work at the CIT HelpDesk in South Hall and CIT Tech Help in Milne Library support the computing needs of all members of the campus community. Their primary focus is providing assistance in our computer labs and troubleshooting problems with student owned computers, but their job stretches across a wide range of computing topics including both software and hardware related issues. They are expected to have a working knowledge of Macintosh OS, Windows, and mobile devices. Techs are expected to attend training at the beginning of each semester as well as attend staff meetings held every month.
Technical Services Assistants provide support to CIT's Technical Services Coordinator. These students will have the opportunity to work directly with hardware repair on computers, monitors, printers, and other peripherals. They will also deliver completed hardware repairs. Applicants should be comfortable installing and configuring expansion hardware and be willing to learn hardware troubleshooting techniques.
Technical Support Assistants (TSA) are students who work directly with CIT's professional distributed support staff. They will provide one-on-one assistance to campus faculty and staff. Applications should be comfortable with a wide variety of computer software and with the installation and configuration of new computers. Special consideration for these positions will be given to current CIT student employees.
Network Assistants work with the campus Network Staff in maintaining and enhancing the structure and security of the campus network. These employees need to be familiar with Windows MacOS, and Linux. Familiarity with HTML (no GUI applications) and Perl are preferred. Network assistants are heavily involved in the activation of new network connections whenever the network expands, and will be expected to terminate copper and fiber-optic cable, as well as configure and install network electronics. Responsibilities include Linux system administration, web programming, and experimentation with new Linux and Windows based software. Network assistants may occasionally be asked to work on weekends, evenings, or early mornings, whichever is necessary to avoid disrupting the campus community. Training will be provided.
Student database programmers work with CIT's Information Systems group to develop, modify and test Banner applications, including KnightWeb. Ideal applicants would have some familiarity with computer databases such as Microsoft Access and at least one programming language. Student database programmers will be required to complete introductory Oracle computer-based training modules as part of their early job duties. Additional training will be provided by professional staff as needed.
The Graphic Designer assists CIT with publications, marketing web graphics, training materials and other materials for the Digital Media, Instructional Technologies, and User Services staff. Applicants must be proficient in the Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Photoshop and Illustrator and should provide some sample graphic design work when applying for this position. A strong foundation in the principles of graphic design and marketing is required. The ideal candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, customer focused and work independently.
The Web Content Assistant position helps to improve and deliver a compelling online presence for CIT. Responsibilities include evaluating consistency, reliability and usability. The applicant should be a strong and clear communicator with an effective technical writing style that is fresh, consistent and customer focused. This position requires a knack for writing in a variety of formats and styles for multiple audiences. A basic understanding of web technologies is desired.
These positions are typically combined into one position for an average of 5 hours per week.
Student assistants are trained to provide tech help for students, faculty and staff in developing digital audio & video projects. Once training is complete, student workers are expected to troubleshoot technical issues for faculty, staff and students, provide basic assistance in use of facilities, and provide feedback to supervisors regarding DML operations. Qualified applicants must be comfortable using technology, have a willingness to learn new software programs, possess strong verbal communication skills, ability to work independently and in a team environment. Strong familiarity with Mac OSX and Microsoft Office (PowerPoint in particular). Best candidates will have strong problem solving and computer troubleshooting skills. Basic familiarity with media manipulation concepts and some experience with applicable software such as the iLife Suite, Windows Moviemaker, the Adobe Creative Suite and other audio/visual manipulation software.
