Humacao, Puerto Rico – The Geneseo women’s tennis team (12-1)
closed out its spring trip with an 8-1 win over Springfield (6-8). The Knights
won their three matches during the week by a combined score of 26-1.
Three Knights were double winners. Sophomore Amanda Rosati (Albany/Academy
of the Holy Names) and senior Sarah Shields (Long Valley, N.J./West
Morris) remained undefeated at second doubles, winning 8-1 for the second
straight match to improve to 8-0. They were straight-set singles winners at
fourth and fifth singles, respectively. Rosati is now 9-1 in singles play
(21-2 overall) and Shields has posted a 9-2 singles mark with an overall record
of 22-1.
Senior Katie Talbot (Endwell/Maine-Endwell) recorded a straight-set
win at third singles – where she is 8-2 this year – after teaming with first
year Marylen Santos (Jamaica/St. Francis Prep) for an 8-3 first
singles victory. The duo is 12-1 in doubles play.
Sophomore Dexuan Yuan (Flushing/Benjamin Cardozo) and first year Jess Ringler
(North Tonawanda/North Tonawanda) won at second and sixth singles,
respectively. Ringler’s win was the first of her career.
The third doubles team of sophomores Minxuan Yuan (Flushing/Benjamin Cardozo)
and Zakiyyah Abdus-Salaam (Mount Vernon/The Ursuline School) rounded out the
Knights’ winners, beating their opponent 8-3.
The Knights are idle until April 3, when they will host Roberts Wesleyan.
