Tampa, Fla. – The Geneseo
women’s swimming & diving team placed third of six teams – and first among
Division III schools – at the Tampa Relay Invitational. In the combined men’s
and women’s team scores, Geneseo placed second of seven schools.
The Knights were the highest placing Division III team in eight of the 10
events and posted three-place efforts. The 300-yard backstroke team of sophomore
Haliegh Wixson (Montour Falls/Watkins Glen), sophomore Abby Max (New
Hartford/New Hartford) and junior Lauren Boyce (New Hartford/New Hartford) took
third in 3:08.80; the 300-yard breaststroke trio of sophomore Eileen Goralski (Queensbury/Queensbury),
senior Kaitlin Wilcoxen (Manlius/Fayetteville-Manlius) and senior Elyssa Max (New
Hartford/New Hartford) finished third in 3:33.70 and the team of Kala Wilkins,
Wixson, Elyssa Max and Abby Max recorded a third-place time of 4:54.53 in the
500-yard freestyle crescendo.
Geneseo took fourth in the 400-yard medley relay, with Boyce, Goralski, junior Lily
Powell (Selkirk/Bethlehem) and junior Corinne Vairo (Poquott/Ward Melville) finishing
in 4:13.29. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Wixson, Wilkins, Elyssa Max and
Abby Max took fourth in 3:44.67.
Three other Knight entrants finished fifth. In the 300-yard butterfly relay, junior
Molly Carney (Chenango Forks/Chenango Forks), first year Hailey Modelewski (Northport/Northport)
and Powell finished in 3:07.01; the 200-yard freestyle contingent of Wixson,
Wilkins and Elyssa and Abby Max recorded a time of 1:42.32; and the team of
Boyce, first year Jenna Gibbons (Staten Island/Staten Island Tech), Goralski and
Wilcoxen finished in 4:27.54.
The Knights return to dual-meet competition this weekend, facing New Paltz
Friday and Rochester Institute of Technology Saturday in meets at RIT.
