New Paltz, N.Y. – The Geneseo women’s basketball team (20-6) cruised to a 67-51 win over Oswego (18-9) in the semifinal round of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championship Tournament Friday. The second-seeded Knights will play top-seeded New Paltz, the tournament host, Saturday at 4 p.m. in the SUNYAC final with the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA playoffs at stake.

Geneseo held the Lakers to 31.3 percent shooting from the floor (the Knights rank 14th nationally in field-goal percentage defense) and held a double-digit lead for the game’s final 27 minutes.

First year forward Allison McKenna (Huntington/John Glenn) scored a game-high 19 points and blocked six shots – one short of her own school record – to lead Geneseo. She raised her season total to 57, breaking Alyssa Polosky's 2011 single-season record. That total is already seventh on the program's career list.

Sophomore forward Shannon McGinnis (Walworth/Gananda) added 14 points and nine rebounds and senior guard Melissa Graham (East Orchard/Mount Mercy) finished with nine points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

First year guard Dana Cohan (Rochester/Greece Athena), who scored eight points, led the Knights with five assists. Graham, McKenna, first year guard Paige Hill (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon) and sophomore guard Biz Reinhardt (Rochester/Hilton) all collected three. Reinhardt’s three steals led the team. Sophomore forward Katie Peterson (Ithaca/Ithaca) added seven points off the bench.

Geneseo, the nation’s leader in rebounding margin, posted a 46-29 advantage on the boards.

The Knights, who reached the 20-win mark for the 12th time in the past 23 years, will be making their eighth appearance in the SUNYAC final They’re a perfect 7-0 in conference championship games, earning NCAA playoff bids in 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997 and 2011.

Geneseo split with New Paltz during the regular season.
