The Geneseo men's soccer team posted their first win of the season this afternoon with a convincing 2-0 win over visiting Clarkson. Senior Alex Stephan scored both goals just 1:05 apart early in the first half to provide the offense. On the opener, junior Pat Lynch sent a corner kick to the far side of the penalty area where Stephan settled the ball and shot into the upper left at 16:13. The second goal came at 17:18 when Stephan sent a direct kick from 25 yards out just under the crossbar for the 2-0 lead. Senior Nick Voggel picked up his first career shutout by making six saves. The Blue Knights move to 1-2-0 on the year and host St. Lawrence on Saturday at 3 p.m.
The host Rochester Yellowjackets erupted for three goals in the second half on the way to a 4-1 win over the Geneseo women's field hockey team this afternoon. Rochester took a 1-0 at 7:13 on a rebound goal and the Yellowjackets made it 2-0 at 46:25 on a goal off a counter. The Blue Knights drew within one at 64:01 when senior Chellie Johnson fed junior Kerry Hosford, who lifted a shot into the top left corner. Rochester added two goals in the final 2:28 to make the 4-1 final with the first coming off a corner and the second on a rebound. Geneseo posted 15 shots to 12 for Rochester and took 12 corners to 10 for the Jackets. Senior Caitlyn Dowell made five saves in taking the loss. The Blue Knights fall to 1-2 on the year and travel to William Smith on Wednesday.
The Geneseo women's soccer team suffered their third straight 2-0 loss as the Blue Knights fell to Allegheny College today in the first round of the Fredonia Classic. Each team mustered nine shots in a primarily defensive battle, but Allegheny converted goals at 6:22 and 71:09 for the win. Junior Julia Sanger made six saves in taking the loss as Geneseo fell to 0-3-0. The Blue Knights take on Rochester in the second game of the tournament.
