The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announced the fall sport All-SUNYAC teams today in four sports. In addition, the Conference announced the Player and Rookie of the Year for volleyball. The Coach of the Year for volleyball and major award winners for the other three sports are slated for announcement early next week.
The SUNYAC announced senior right side Krista Frieling as the SUNYAC West Player of the Year and first year setter Noelle Morrison as the SUNYAC West Rookie of the Year to highlight the SUNYAC Volleyball All-Conference team as announced today. Frieling leads the Blue Knights in kills with 426 and stands fourth all-time at the college, while Morrison earned Rookie of the Year by centering the Geneseo attack with 1,010 assists. Frieling appeared on the All-SUNYAC team for the third time overall and second consecutive appearance on the first team, while Morrison and sophomore libero Laura Galvin, who led the Knights with 610 digs, earned second team All-SUNYAC.
The SUNYAC announced the members of the All-SUNYAC Field Hockey team today and senior forward Michelle Milkovich highlighted the selections as she earned first team All-SUNYAC for the fourth time after pacing the Knights with 40 points on 14 goals and 12 assists. Senior forward Stephanie Maisonet earned her third appearance on the first team after posting eight goals and three assists for 19 points and senior midfielder Erin Zalewski scored five goals with seven helpers for 17 points on the way to her second All-SUNYAC selection and first on the first team. All four players on Geneseo's defense, which has allowed only 14 goals in 17 games, earned a spot on the All-SUNYAC team. Senior Rianna Travers and sophomore Katie Gallo earned first team, the third conference honor for Travers and second for Gallo, while sophomore Aly Tarney and first year Bridget McGovern received their first award.
Five members of the women's soccer team earned All-SUNYAC recognition as announced by the conference office today. Junior midfielder Bre Glynn and senior defender Ashley Keogh earned first team All-SUNYAC, junior forward Kelly Bergin, who led the Knights with 28 points on 12 goals and four assists, grabbed a second team award, while junior midfielder Corinne Santariello and junior defender Molly Bralower garnered third team All-SUNYAC. Glynn was a third team choice in 2009, while the other players claim their first conference recognition.
Junior forward Ian Mort, who paced Geneseo with 10 goals and two assists for 22 points, highlighted the three All-SUNYAC selections for men's soccer by claiming a first team award. Senior forward Ben Ariola, who scored four goals and four assists for 12 points, and junior midfielder Colin Begy, who added a goal and a team-high six assists, grabbed third team All-SUNYAC. Begy is a two-time All-SUNYAC selection and Ariola is a first-time honoree.
