Senior Bre Glynn broke a scoreless tie at 54:20 with a goal from 15 yards out to lift the Geneseo women's soccer team to a 3-0 win over host Brockport this afternoon. Senior Anne Beinetti (pictured left) notched her 12th and 13th goals of the season just 45 seconds apart late in the match to give the Blue Knights some insurance. Beinetti hit a 20 yard shot at 81:17 and then finished a cross from Brittany Young at 82:02 for the final. Sophomore Julia Sanger made two saves as Geneseo posted 17 shots to five for Brockport. The Blue Knights move to 9-3-1 overall and 2-2-1 in SUNYAC and host Oswego on Friday at 4 p.m.
Senior Alyssa Smith (pictured left) finished in third place with a time of 22:16 over six kilometers to lead the #6 Geneseo women's cross country team to the team title at the Hoffman Pre-Regional Invitational at St. Lawrence this afternoon. The Blue Knights posted 50 points to second place St. Lawrence's 69 and the Ottawa Lions Track Club was third with 97. Junior Danae Polsin was sixth in 22:40, first year Cassie Goodman placed eighth in 22:44, junior Emily Sullivan was 12th in 22:57 and junior Brigid Heenan completed the scoring runners by placing 21st in 23:15. Geneseo's top seven included Bekah Steinke, who was 22nd in 23:16 and first year Alyssa Knott, who was 23rd in 23:18. The Blue Knights compete at Rochester on Saturday.
Senior Lee Berube (pictured left) won the individual title with a time of 24:39 over eight kilometers at the Hoffman Pre-Regional Race at St. Lawrence this afternoon as the #5 Geneseo men's cross country team placed third with 76 points behind champion Bates (53) and the second place hosts (75). Senior Eddie Novara ran third in 25:46, Tom Clark ran 19th in 26:29, senior A.J. Corcoran was 24th in 26:32 and senior Mark Streb completed the scoring five after finishing 29th in 26:42. The top seven included senior Chris Carter, who placed 33rd in 26:45 and first year Ryan Moynihan, who finished 39th in 26:51. Geneseo travels to the Rochester Invitational on Saturday.
The Geneseo men's soccer team hosted the Brockport Golden Eagles (7-3-1/4-1-0 SUNYAC) in a SUNYAC contest this afternoon and lost a 3-1 decision. Geneseo controlled play early in the match and took a 1-0 lead at 16:24 when senior Colin Begy found junior Jop Smit (pictured left) in the middle of the field and his one-time volley hit off the bottom of the crossbar and into the net. Brockport got the equalizer six minutes later at 22:18 when Brian Duffy fed a ball back into the box after a Geneseo clear on a corner kick and Bobby Ross hit a one-time volley inside the right post. Ross struck again at 41:52 when Dan Turchan flicked a header into the box and Ross headed a shot inside the left post. Brockport completed the scoring in the second half with 48 seconds remaining when Paul Altobelli collected a loose ball and fired a shot just under the crossbar from 25 yards out. Geneseo's Sam Murphy made two saves in taking the loss in nets for the Blue Knights as they fall to 6-5-1 overall and 3-2-0 in SUNYAC. The Blue Knights travel to Oswego on Friday.
