The women's swimming and diving team hosted the Fredonia Blue Devils today and won a 151-123 decision as senior Michelle Rodriguez won three events, while sophomore Meghan Green and sophomore Kaitlin Wilcoxen won two events each for Geneseo. Rodriguez won the 100 and 200-yard backstrokes in 1:01.94 and 2:12.87, respectively and captured the 50 free in 24.77 for the Blue Wave. Green won the 200 and 500 frees in 2:00.40 and 5:17.89, while Wilcoxen captured the 100 and 200 breaststrokes in 1:10.09 and 2:31.43. In addition, senior Jennifer Anthone won the 100 freestyle in 55.98. Geneseo moves to 2-0 on the season and hosts Cortland on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Junior Josh Kaplan won three events, while senior Wills DeMoulin and juniors Dan Strothenke and Ken Pink won two events each to lead the men's swimming and diving team to a 170-116 win over visiting Fredonia this afternoon. Kaplan posted wins in the 100 (55.05) and 200 (2:02.60) backstrokes and the 100 butterfly (55.91) to pace Geneseo. DeMoulin won the diving events with scores of 265.10 on the one-meter and 271.25 on the three-meter. Strothenke captured the 100 and 200 frees in 48.83 and 1:49.52, while Pink won the 100 and 200 breaststroke events in 1:02.90 and 2:20.17, respectively. Geneseo posted three other wins as Mike Shrago won the 500 free in 5:09.63, Andrew Kuter took the 50 free in 22.11 and Jan Dokonal touched first in the 400 IM in 4:28.29. Geneseo is 2-0 on the year and hosts Cortland on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The men's ice hockey team traveled to Morrisville tonight and lost for the first time in 12 games going back to last season, 3-2. After a scoreless first period and near scoreless second, Morrisville grabbed a 1-0 lead with two minutes left in the second frame. The Mustangs took a 2-0 lead just 1:28 into the third, but Geneseo battled back to tie the game on a pair of goals by first year Zachary Vit. The first came on the power play at 8:35 as Danny Scagnelli and Colin de Jersey collected assists, while de Jersey and Clint Olson claimed the helpers on the second score at 14:33. Morrisville notched the game-winner with 4:05 left in the contest. Junior Cory Gershon made 40 saves in taking the loss as the Ice Knights fall to 3-1-1 overall and 2-1-0 in SUNYAC. Geneseo travels to Fredonia on Friday.
