Potsdam, N.Y. – The #12/14 Geneseo ice
hockey team (15-8-1, 10-4-1 SUNYAC) scored twice in the final 141 seconds to
force overtime before host Potsdam (8-14-1, 5-9-0 SUNYAC) scored an overtime
goal for a 4-3 win in a State University of New York Athletic Conference
(SUNYAC) game Saturday.
Senior forward Ryan Bulach (Kelowna, B.C./Trail Smoke Eaters) scored two goals
37 seconds apart as the Knights rallied from a 3-1 deficit. Bulach, who raised
his season total to 10 goals, scored a six-on-four goal after the Knights
pulled their goalie after the Bears were whistled for a penalty. Junior forward
Zachary Vit (Villanova. Pa./Green Mountain Glades) assisted on Bulach’s
power-play goal, which pulled Geneseo to within 3-2 with 2:21 left in
regulation.
Senior forward Kaz Iwamoto (Tomakomai, Japan/Wyoming Seminary) won the ensuing
face-off and fed Bulach for the tying goal with 1:44 remaining.
The Knights won the overtime face-off and had a chance to win but their shot
was saved and Potsdam converted just 40 seconds into the extra session.
First year defenseman Alex Lubczuk (Kitchener, Ont./Georgetown Raiders) scored
the game’s first goal, converting passes from Iwamoto and junior forward Garry
Childerhose (Altoona, Man./Melfort Mustangs) 3:17 into the game before the
Bears scored the next three goals.
Senior Adrian Rubeniuk (Grandview, Man./Dauphin Kings) made 40 saves in goal.
The Knights close out the regular season Saturday, hosting Morrisville in a 7
p.m. game. They’ll be the third seed for the upcoming SUNYAC playoffs and will
host a quarterfinal contest against the sixth seed on Wednesday, Feb. 20.
