Cortland, N.Y. – The Geneseo men’s basketball team (17-10)
ended its season with a 77-67 loss to Plattsburgh (19-7) in the semifinal round
of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championship
Tournament Friday. The second-seeded Cardinals pulled away from a tie game late
in the second half to oust the third-seeded Knights.
Plattsburgh scored the first four points of the second half, then pushed its
lead to nine points 6:57 into the period before Geneseo rallied. The Knights
went on an 11-2 run, featuring a pair of three-point baskets by sophomore guard
Andy Drescher (Fayetteville/Christian Brothers Academy) and a game-tying three
pointer by sophomore guard Thomas Decker (White Plains/Archbishop Stepanic) to
knot the score at 50. The Cardinals scored the next 11 points to retake
control.
Sophomore forward Gordon Lyons (Buffalo/Canisius) recorded his 10th
double-double of the season, leading the Knights with 19 points and 12
rebounds. Junior guard Connor Fedge (Bellport/Bellport) scored 15 points and
Decker finished with 12 points and a team-leading four assists.
Drescher scored nine points and sophomore forward James McKenna (Huntington/St.
Anthony’s) added seven. Fedge and senior forward Ryan Riefenhauser (Dobbs
Ferry/Dobbs Ferry) both pulled down seven rebounds.
