The first trip to the NCAA Division III Field Hockey tournament for the #17 Geneseo Blue Knights ended with a tough 1-0 loss in overtime in the first round against host Stevens Institute (11-10) this afternoon. In a defensive battle that saw only six shots by Stevens and four by Geneseo in regulation time, the Ducks took advantage of an overtime breakaway 4:32 into the extra session as first year Caitlin Chamberlain scored her sixth goal of the season off an assist from Mary Nikish. The Blue Knights had the opening opportunities in the extra period as first year Katie Farley sent one shot wide and had another blocked. Stevens posted eight corners for the game and Geneseo had six. Sophomore Caitlyn Dowell made one save in taking the loss as Geneseo has their 17-game win streak stopped and finishes the campaign with a record of 18-2. Stevens advances to take on Eastern (Pa.) in the second round on Saturday at Skidmore.
