The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) released the final Division III standings for the NCAA Division III Learfield Directors Cup and the Geneseo Blue Knights finished in 39th place of 294 scoring institutions with 370.67 points. There are approximately 440 institutions in Division III vying for Directors Cup points.
The 39th place finish marks the second best finish for the Blue Knights and the 370.67 points are the most accumulated since the standings began in 1995-96. Geneseo finished in 26th with 348 points in 2004-05.
The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's NCAA Division III championship finish in up to 18 sports -- nine women's and nine men's.
Geneseo is ranked third of the New York State schools behind Cortland (16th) and Ithaca (19th), but ahead of New York University (43), St. Lawrence (T46), RIT (T46), Buffalo State (48) and Rochester (52). In the spring, Geneseo claimed 45.5 points for women's track and field for a 28th place finish and 10.67 points in men's track and field for a tie for 57th. In the winter, the Knights received 50 points for a tie for 17th place in women's basketball, 46.5 points for 27th in women's swimming and diving, 40 points for 34th in men's swimming and diving and 30 points for a tie for 42nd place in men's indoor track and field. In the fall, Geneseo claimed 69 points for seventh place in men's cross country, 54 points for 12th place in women's cross country and 25 points for a tie for 17th place in field hockey.
