Clermont,
Fla. – The Geneseo softball team (4-6) dropped a pair of games Thursday, losing
8-3 to Hope (5-6) and 8-7 to Wisconsin-Eau Claire (8-1).
In their first game of the day, the Knights rallied from a 3-0 deficit to tie
the score before the Dutch scored five times over the final four innings.
First year Mikayla Moore (Stillwater/Stillwater) singled in a pair of runs and
junior first baseman Samantha Trapasso (Garden City/Garden City) added a
run-scoring single as Geneseo scored three times in the bottom of the third.
The Knights were held hitless over the final four innings with only one runner
reaching base.
Geneseo rallied against Wisconsin-Eau Claire as well, erasing a 5-1
first-inning deficit to take a 6-5 lead before the Blugolds rallied to go ahead
8-6 in the bottom of the sixth. The Knights scored once in the seventh and
advanced the tying run to third before the Blugolds secured the last out to
escape with the win.
The Knights’ seventh-inning rally started with one out when senior third
baseman Jessica Steubing (Fairport/Fairport) was hit by a pitch. A two-out
single by sophomore catcher Jami Cohen (East Amherst/Williamsville East) moved
pinch-runner Catherine Krok (Buffalo/Williamsville East ) to second and sophomore
second baseman Jenna Reilley (Williamsville/East) followed with a run-scoring
single that sent Cohen to third. Wis.-Eau Claire induced a groundout to end the
game.
Trapasso drove in three runs after the Blugolds used five runs in the bottom of
the first to go up 5-1. She hit a two-run home run – her third of the season –
to spark a three-run third inning and singled home the go-ahead run in the
fourth. Her run-scoring single followed a two-run double by first year shortstop
Samantha Brown (Canton/Hugh C. Williams).
Trapasso's home run was the 11th of her career; she's tied for seventh on the program's all-time list.
Brown, Trapasso and junior third baseman Elise Porreca (Lancaster/Lancaster) each
had two of Geneseo’s nine hits. Brown scored three runs.
The Knights wrap up their spring trip with games against Bowdoin and Elmhurst
Friday.
