GENESEO, N.Y. – The Geneseo men’s
basketball team (11-5, 7-2 SUNYAC) maintained sole possession of first place in
the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) by holding off
visiting Oswego (12-3, 5-3 SUNYAC) 61-51 Saturday. The Knights’ defense held
the Lakers 23 points below their scoring average; Oswego shot 29.8 percent from
the floor (17 of 57) – the worst mark by a Geneseo opponent all season.
The Knights used an 18-3 run to take control early, erasing Oswego’s 7-6 lead
4:23 into the game and never trailed again. The Lakers got to within one
possession only once, drawing as close as 35-32 after opening the second half
with a 12-5 run.
Sophomore forward Gordon Lyons (Amherst Canisius) recorded his fourth double
double of the season (and second in as many nights), leading Geneseo with 15
points and 10 rebounds. Junior guard Connor Fedge (Bellport/Bellport) scored 14
points and added two assists and two steals.
Senior forward Ryan Riefenhauser (Dobbs Ferry/Dobbs Ferry) contributed nine
rebounds, seven assists, seven points and three steals. Sophomore forward James
McKenna (Huntington/St. Anthony’s) added seven points and eight rebounds off
the bench.
The Knights host Fredonia Tuesday in an 8 p.m. SUNYAC game.
