New York, N.Y. – The Geneseo men’s basketball team (1-1) picked
up its first win of the season, beating Gwynedd-Mercy (0-2) 99-73 in the
consolation game of New York University’s Tip-Off Tournament.
Five players scored in double figures as the Blue Knights shot 63.6 percent
from the floor; they made 19 of their 25 second-half shots.
Senior guard Marcus Hoy (Batavia/Batavia) and sophomore guard Andy Drescher (Fayetteville/Christian
Brothers Academy) came off the bench to score career-high totals of 16 and 14
points, respectively. Drescher made all four of his field-goal attempts – all from
three-point range – and both his free-throw attempts; he hasn’t missed a shot
of any kind this season. Hoy made six of seven shots from the floor (including
all three three-point tries), netting his 16 points in just 16 minutes.
Junior guard Connor Fedge (Bellport/Bellport), who was named to the
all-tournament team, scored a game-high 17 points and added three assists and
three rebounds. He made three of Geneseo’s 11 three-point baskets. Junior forward Jordan Jones (Rochester/McQuaid) and sophomore forward Gordon Lyons (Amherst/Canisius)
both scored 12 points. Lyons led the Blue Knights with seven rebounds.
Senior forward Ryan Riefenhauser (Dobbs Ferry/Dobbs Ferry) collected six
rebounds and five points; his game-high nine assists were a career-high total.
The Blue Knights took control early, holding the Griffins to one basket in the
first 6:30 minutes and opening up a 16-3 lead in that span.
Geneseo plays a 3 p.m. game at D’Youville Saturday.
