GENESEO,
N.Y. – The Geneseo ice hockey team (4-4-1, 3-2-1
SUNYAC) snapped a three-game losing streak Friday, beating #4 Plattsburgh
(5-1-0, 4-1-0 SUNYAC) 3-2 in a State University of New York Athletic Conference
(SUNYAC) game.
First year Devon Rice (Ottawa,
Ont./Ottawa Junior Senators) scored the game-winning goal with just 57
seconds left in regulation after the previously undefeated Cardinals had fought
back from a 2-0 deficit.
Rice’s goal – the first of his
career – came off an assist by first year Alex
Lubczuk (Kitchener, Ont./Georgetown Raiders) after a scramble in front of
the net.
The Ice Knights had taken a 2-0 lead early in the second period. Senior Ryan Bulach (Kelowna, B.C./Buffalo Jr.
Sabres) gave Geneseo a 1-0 lead on his fourth goal of the season, putting
in a rebound after a pad save on a shot by junior Zachary Vit (Villanova, Pa./Green Mountain Glades) midway through
the opening period. Sophomore Jack
Caradonna (Markham, Ont./Stouffville Spirit) also assisted on the goal; he
and Vit both have a team-best seven
assists.
A goal by Jonathan Sucese (Fairport/Northfield
Mount Hermon) put the Knights up 2-0 3:12 into the second period. Senior Blake O’Connor (Phoenix, Ariz./Bay State
Breakers) won a face-off in the Cardinal zone leading to a shot by senior Blake O’Connor (Phoenix, Ariz./Bay State
Breakers) that was saved. Sucese converted the rebound for his first goal
of the season.
Sophomore Bryan Haude (Hilton/Hartford
Wolfpack) earned the win with 14 saves in relief of senior Adrian Rubeniuk (Grandview, Man./Dauphin
Kings). Rubeniuk stopped all
nine shots he faced before leaving the game early in the second period.
The Ice Knights close out their six-game home stand Saturday with a 7 p.m. conference
game against Potsdam.
