Clermont Fla. – The Geneseo softball team (4-8) wrapped up
its spring trip with a 6-5 loss to Elmhurst (4-1) Friday. The Knights won three
of eight games during their week in Florida.
The Knights scored five runs over their first two at bats, but were held to
just two hits over the final five innings. Those hits were back-to-back singles
by first year shortstop Samantha Brown (Canton/Hugh C. Williams) and junior
first baseman Samantha Trapasso (Garden City/Garden City) with one out in the
seventh, setting Geneseo up with the tying and go-ahead runs on base. The
Cardinals turned a game-ending double play to escape with the win.
Junior outfielder Lexi Williams (Waterford/Shenendehowa) doubled in two runs in
the first inning and Trapasso cleared the bases with a three-run double. Trapasso
and Brown both had a pair of hits.
Sophomore catcher Ashley Fillmore (Getzville/Williamsville North) scored two
runs.
Sophomore Nicole Zimmerman (Canandaigua/Canandaigua Academy) allowed seven hits
in a complete-game effort.
The Knights open the northern portion of their schedule Friday, hosting
Plattsburgh in their home and State University of New York Athletic Conference
(SUNYAC) opener.
