The women's lacrosse team scored the final goal of the first half and opened the second half with six straight scores to break open a close game and race to a 14-9 win at Potsdam this afternoon. Senior Abby Hungerford scored four goals with two assists to pace the attack and junior Anna Hutchings added three goals and one assist with five draw controls for the Blue Knights. Junior Lauren Burgoon, sophomore Kim Magee and first year Rachel Petrone netted two goals each and first year Lea Paris contributed a goal and an assist. Junior Annie Smith stopped three shots to post the win in goal as Geneseo moves to 6-5 overall and 3-1 in SUNYAC. The Blue Knights travel to Oswego on Saturday.
Sophomore KK Schaus' solo homer in the top of the eighth inning gave Geneseo a 2-1 win in the opening game of today's SUNYAC doubleheader at Brockport. Senior Katie Holm belted a solo shot in the top of the sixth for a 1-0 lead, but the Golden Eagles responded with a run in the bottom of the frame to tie it. Junior Janine Montera tossed a five-hitter with three walks, one unearned run and 11 strikeouts to post the win. In the second game, the Golden Eagles erupted for nine runs in the third inning on the way to a 13-3 victory in five innings. Senior Bree Crossett was 2-2 with a run and an RBI, junior Megan Pogemiller was 2-2 with a run scored and first year Stef Rosenberg went 1-3 with an RBI. Geneseo is 14-12 overall and 4-6 in SUNYAC and travels to Medaille on Sunday.
First year Marissa Liberati ran an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 11:00.58 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Cortland Classic Invitational tonight to highlight the performances on a tough night for running. Graduate student Maggie Morris ran third in the 1,500 meters in 4:50.94 for Geneseo. On the men's side, sophomore Lee Berube ran second in the 1,500 meters in 4:01.57 and senior Andrew Sorrento finished third in the hammer throw with a toss of 52.85.
