Senior Sebastian Panetta and sophomore David Arduin scored first period goals and sophomore goaltender Cory Gershon made 29 saves as the men's ice hockey team defeated host Brockport by a score of 2-1. Panetta gave Geneseo a 1-0 lead at the 9:18 mark with senior Dan Brown getting the assist and Arduin scored his eighth of the season on the power play from sophomores Jimmy Powers and Jake Yard for a 2-0 lead at 18:19. Brockport scored a second period power play goal, but Gershon and the defense made the one-goal lead stand. Geneseo took just three minor penalties in the contest to rise to sixth in Division III in fewest penalties with 11.8 minutes per game. Geneseo moves to 11-10-2 overall and 7-6-1 in SUNYAC. The Ice Knights complete their season with home games on Friday vs. Cortland and on Saturday vs. #1 Oswego.
The men's basketball team hosted Brockport tonight and fell to the Golden Eagles by a score of 55-50. After trailing 26-20 at half, Brockport took their first lead of the second half with 8:28 remaining at 42-41 and a three-pointer gave the Golden Eagles the lead for good with 3:15 to play at 49-47. Geneseo drew to 49-48 on a free throw by senior Jordan Blair, but another Brockport long range shot clinched the win. Sophomore John Drazan scored eight of his team-high 13 points in the first half to lead Geneseo, Blair finished with nine points and senior Brandon Simpson scored all of his eight points in the first half and collected a game-high nine rebounds. Geneseo held Brockport to 31% from the field, 25% from the arc and won the rebound battle, 41-27, however, the Blue Knights committed 26 turnovers and were just 16-27 from the line. Geneseo falls to 7-15 overall and 6-9 in SUNYAC and hosts Fredonia on Tuesday at 8 p.m.
The women's basketball team hosted Brockport tonight and dropped a 54-48 decision as the Blue Knights could not recover from an early deficit. In the first half, the Golden Eagles scored the initial five points of the game and led by as many as nine points at 11-2 before Geneseo rebounded to tie the game at 13. The Blue Knights led 21-17 with 4:37 remaining, but Brockport erupted for a 12-0 run for an eight-point lead. Geneseo's Stephanie Ruback hit a runner in the lane with two seconds left to close the half. Brockport never trailed in the second stanza despite not leading by more than five points from the 16-minute mark until nine seconds remained. Geneseo tied the game at 46 with 4:02 left on a jumper by Khadija Campbell, but the Golden Eagles scored four points in a row to take control of the game. Campbell led Geneseo with 17 points on 8-17 from the field with seven rebounds. The Knights fall to 12-10 overall and 8-7 in SUNYAC and host Fredonia on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
