GENESEO, N.Y. – The Geneseo women’s swimming & diving team, ranked 25th nationally, defeated three other teams to win the Geneseo Invitational Saturday. The Knights posted a winning score of 427.5 points, beating Brockport (323), Buffalo State (187) and Oswego (144.5).

Geneseo’s 12 first-place finishes included two more wins for junior Emily Wanamaker (Camillus/Christian Brothers Academy), who swept the diving events with scores of 428.6 on the 1-meter board and 248.85 in the 3-meter competition. Wanamaker has won her last 11 events.

Sophomore Abby Max (New Hartford/New Hartford) swam on both of Geneseo’s winning relay teams and placed first in the 500-yard freestyle, posting a time of 5:22.19.

Sophomore Haleigh Wixson (Montour Falls/Watkins Glen) led off both first-place relay quartets, helping the 400-yard medley team win in 4:06.39 and the 400-yard freestyle relay unit touch first in 3:41.88.

Senior Kaitlin Wilcoxen (Manlius/Fayetteville-Manlius) and junior Lily Powell (Selkirk/Bethlehem), who joined Wixson and Abby Max on the 400 medley relay, both won an individual event, placing first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.82) and 100-yard butterfly (1:00.52), respectively.

Sophomore Stephanie Wilcoxen (Manlius/Fayetteville Manlius) recorded a winning time of 25.16 in the 50-yard freestyle.

Junior Corrine Vairo (Poquott/Ward Melville) won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:02.99 and junior Julie Deren (Lackawanna/Nardin Academy) finished first in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:11.67).

Junior Lauren Boyce (New Hartford/New Hartford) rounded out Geneseo’s winners, placing first in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:18.41.

 In conjunction with its final home meet of the season, Geneseo celebrated its annual Faculty Recognition, honoring Dr. James Aimers (anthropology), Dr. Andrew Herman (communications), Dr. David Holtzman (biology), Dr. Edwin Spicka (biology), Dr. Yuichi Tamura (sociology) and Dr. Gary Towsley (biology).

The Knights are idle until the SUNYAC Championships, which will be held Feb. 23 at Erie Community College. Geneseo has won the last five conference titles.
